Who can apply for an ECO grant?

Homeowners:

Homeowners are able to apply for a grant so long as they meet all of the eligibility criteria. You can still apply for an ECO grant if you do not currently have an EPC rating. Grant applicants must either receive a qualifying benefit in the household or meet low income eligibility criteria.

Households without any benefits:

Households who do not receive any benefits can still apply for a grant as part of the local authority flex scheme. In order to qualify without receiving benefits, applicants must have an annual household income below £31,000. The EPC rating must be also be listed as either E or below.

Private rental tenants:

If you are currently renting a property, you must first get landlord permission that they are happy for the work to go ahead. This also includes that there may be a contribution required dependent on a house survey which would be carried out.

Private landlords:

If you are a landlord looking for a grant for your property, your tenant must meet the eligibility criteria.

First Time Central Heating applicants:

For first time central heating applications, there must be no central heating previously installed to the property. The current method of heating must either be listed as an alternative method (electric heating, oil, wood etc) or as having no heating at all.

What is First Time Central Heating and who can it benefit?

First Time Central heating grants are part of the ECO4 scheme. They are designed for homes which have never previously had central heating installed. For these properties they may currently be using electric storage heaters, room heaters, oil, wood or biomass heating methods or have no heating at all. These are all inefficient methods of heating a home and lead to higher energy bills, lower energy efficiency and a higher carbon footprint.

First Time Central Heating and Gas boiler grants will be installed by Leon York Heating.

What current heating methods qualify?

  • Electric room heaters (Including Electric Storage Heaters)
  • Gas room heaters
  • Solid fossil fuel fire with back boiler
  • Electric underfloor or ceiling heating (not part of an electric boiler)
  • Bottled LPG room heating
  • Solid fossil fuel room heaters
  • Wood/biomass room heating
  • Oil room heaters
  • No heating in place

The Energy Company Obligation Scheme (ECO)

The main goal of the ECO4 Scheme is to help households who are vulnerable to better heat their home and provide savings on their energy bills. The initiative aims to tackle the millions of households living in Fuel Poverty in the UK by offering services which would ordinarily be expensive to install, as part of a free grant. Cavity Wall Insulation, Loft Insulation or Under Floor insulation are all measures which can provide great benefits to keeping your home warmer, reducing your carbon emissions as well as savings each month on your energy bills.
